More poems about Winter

WHEN WILL IT GO AWAY
Winter seems far too long this year, when will it go away?
At least warm up to many more plus temperatures each day,
When it’s minus ten in the middle of March I really fear
That sweet gentle spring will not want to come to near.

The wind blows hard, it makes your eyes run when you go out
There’s not a close parking spot so you hurry and want to shout
Winter go away or at least show a much kinder, less cruel face,
And now go away and let warm weather take your cold place.

Remember the warm zephyr that comes off the lake in spring
And the gentle rain that it nearly always seems to us bring,
When the snow melts away, remember the spring flowers
And the much stronger sun that stays for a few more hours.

It would be nice to awake one morning to green grass so bright
And all the birds around singing together full of sheer delight,
The smell of the soil newly turned and flowers coming through,
And the trees are full of leaves beginning to wake up anew.

But the mounds of snow remain all along the weary streets
And cold winds and snow warning often we seem to meet,
Too long, too long this year, winter is your unwelcome stay
Without sounding a rude hostess I wish you would go away.
