SONNET 97
WHAT WOULD I LIKE TO SEE
If my full life was drawing to an end
And the Lord said what would you like to see
Other than loved ones who are close to thee?
I’d close my eyes and let my heart just wend
Through forests thickly green and try not to send
Bird or creature away, stay close to me.
Find a lush pasture full of great beauty,
Then see a sunset on a river’s bend.
Then wander into the temple to blend
With that message eternal, God loves me,
So grasp a glimpse of heaven, ever be
Ready for the day my name will descend .
Yet if I never see another forest green,
Or a sunset, God’s love has always been.
