THE RIDE OF THE VALKYRIE
How many know of the ride of the Valkyrie?
Lovely winged maidens helping horses fly free
Over great battle fields where many fight and die,
Then one by one carry them to Valhalla safe on high.
Every man that died with honour and kindly bravery.
Those were not chosen who died in greed, or wickedly,
Be he old or young, be he a bonded man or born free,
Rich or poor, friend or foe, find them will the Valkyrie .
They gave mead to all in pain, may then heal to fight again,
Messengers of caring, mercy flying oer this mythical plain,
Taking them to Valhalla to eat, rest and have no more pain,
A paradise all perfect for those who were so cruelly slain.
Look at the detail as the horse rises from the battle field,
One mighty wing in view, a spring, three heads seem to yield
To the promise of better things to come as they start to fly,
How long before the death grip losses the weapon in the sky.
