EGYPT
Fred J Margetson ca 1908
Had he been to Egypt as well as seen the sketch
Before he sat down and made that detailed etch,
Had he ever walked across the hot desert sand,
Or ridden a camel or been in the Holy Land?
His etching caught the wearing of wind and sand,
Yet the masterpiece still in all its glory does stand,
In the distance a pyramid almost like an afterthought
But now I long to see this artifact to touch my heart.
It will have worn since 1908 I fear, nature is quite cruel
For she cannot live by ethics of kindness golden rule,
But to compare the difference and feel the power there,
Link the generations of artist and poets minds to share,
