ON SEEING OLD FRIENDS
It is over thirty years since our friends we last met,
So on meeting them again our hearts were truly set,
Driving to Niagara Falls on a lovely sunny day
But it turned into heavy rain when we were part way.
My Brian and I were soaked from the pouring rain,
Hoping that our journey had not been in vain.
Would we recognize each other looking like drowned rats,
Hundreds of people all wet wearing cheap white mac’s.
They had seen our pictures but we had no clue
What they now looked like as folks came into view,
I’d stare and smile and say, Hi! Then turn away,
That’s them! Yes, it seemed like just yesterday,
Just a little bit older but looking almost the same,
Oh, we are both so glad that we came.
Over hot chocolate we chatted for many awhile,
Remembering old friends that brought a smile.
Now we must keep in contact, not loose each other once more,
Maybe meet again on this or on England’s rugged shore.
