TO SARAH ON BEING NINETEEN
The last of the teen years, a new phase to come,
With a path before you and new battles to be won,
A time to look back and remember those teen years,
Remember all the good and learn from the shed tears.
Nineteen brings more maturity, greater responsibility,
New visions and hopes of the future you may see,
Adulthood before you with it’s challenges each day,
Look forward and smile and live well all the way.
Happy nineteenth birthday, remember joys of the past,
Then upward and onward your life then readily cast,
For there are many who love you, able to guide you aright,
May you step forward bravely in all wisdom and light.
