        SUNDAY IS SPECIAL
Every day is God’s day but Sunday is special
On this day he rested so the scriptures do tell,
He created all things saw they were all good,
And as I look around agree I surely would.

He told us that for six days we should labour,
Work and play, have fun and life’s gifts savour,
But on the day He rested, a commandment he gave
That we should worship Him, not work, play or slave.

When I was growing up this was not too hard to do,
All stores were closed all the amusements were too,
Only essential were working that was understood,
But they usually went to church as often as they could.

Keep the Sabbath day holy, do no shopping at all,
Do not go to the beach for a happy game of ball,
I could go to the park, walk through the flowers,
But could not rent a boat to wile away the hours.

Church first things in t he morning wearing our best,
Keeping it clean all day was part of the Sunny test,
Visit Grandad grave but do not trim it on that day,
Call and visit an old sick friend back along the way.

We sang hymn around the piano as a small family
If relatives came the volume increased you see,
Not all attended church but the sabbath was kept,
It was a way of life that everyone always did accept.

Today is very different, Sunday is for having fun
Even for some Christians when services are done
They go off shopping ot to Canada’s wonderland,
Go to play, for the Sabbath they do not understand.

Help me keep the Sabbath day holy so I may be blest,
Help me understand the meaning of the day of rest,
Help me show my gratitude by honouring Thy day,
Being worthy of the many gifts that come my way.
