SUMMER HEAT
In the icy cold days of winter we dream of hot sunny days,
With nice warm temperatures and that early morning haze
That lets us know it will be hot and the sun will shine bright,
But we usually forget about the humid heat of the night.

I love the long summer days when there is little work to do,
When I can be outside looking at nature, find something new.
Cooking is needed to have a meal, can’t eat out every day,
Then the home gets too hot, that’s when I want to just play.

I still love the summer but wish that I could be always at ease,
Mind you, working in the hot weather is better than to freeze,
Just a few days of summer when nothing needs to be done,
Go and find a quiet spot or go to the beach, splash in the sun.

Last night while trying to rest through the hot sticky night,
I dreamt of being muffled up beside a fire warm and bright,
Knowing when you are cold warm and cozy soon you can be,
But from this real oppressive heat it is very hard to be free.

In future I will try and make the best of both cold and heat,
Accept with gratitude any type of weather that I may meet,
Except yesterday in about an hour we had an inch of rain,
Which meant that no way can we mow the back lawn again.

I promise I will not grumble when temperatures run high,
Or in winter when it’s very cold and snow clouds fill the sky,
I’ll make the best of each season and see beauty all around,
Once it stops raining and hopefully we are not all drowned.
