THE BREAK OF DAY
This morning just before the break of day,
I heard a robin singing in a special way,
The song was bright and filled with joy,
Even at that early time it did not annoy.
He seemed to call to all, rise and shine,
This lovely day is both your and mine,
Arise and enjoy the whole day through,
See the sun awake looking just like new.
His persistence persuaded me then to arise
In time to see the brilliant colour of the skies,
With gold and red, the white clouds all aglow,
A sight to gladden the heart, it touched me so.
I thanked God for that robin so that sight I saw,
A morning of glittering colours and even more,
Multicoloured dew drops to refresh the earth
And the ethereal beauty that was of great worth.
