A LONELY PLACE
The road was far too narrow, this was not the way to go,
But something urged them forward, what they did not know,
Grass grew in the centre of t he road and flowers as well,
Surely no one down this road would ever want to dwell.
We could hear the sea pounding on the rocky rugged shore,
Then we saw the sea glitter and bramble berries galore,
We stopped and gathered much fruit that was so very sweet,
Where was the cottage where the elderly folks we were to meet?
We filled a couple of bags in this lovely spot along the way,
Wishing that at this place a little while we could stay.
In the distance we saw smoke rise over the windy trees,
Rising straight up then being blow inland by the sea breeze,
It was coming from a chimney of a cottage very neat and small,
Save for that smoke the cottage would hardly be seen at all.
They came to the door glad that we had managed to find the way,
Asked if we had stopped to pick berries on that glorious day,
We gave them the fruit and soon they turned were into lovely pies,
The joy those lonely people felt glowed in tear stained eyes.
Many times after that we visited that place by the pounding sea,
To cheer two people who always wanted to be kind and friendly,
A wonderful place to visit awhile, full of natures wild beauty,
There finding sweet companionship and love you wanted for eternity.
