THE BEAR
He sat human-like, feet dangling in the lake,
Holding a freshly caught fish, a bite he did take,
At a glance he looked like a strange old tree,
Then as I focussed a large black bear I did see.
He seemed to be taking a needed well earned rest,
Enjoying fish for supper that tastes the very best.
Then he stood, sharpened his claws on a tree,
It was then he looked around and saw me.
To run would be foolish this I did know
For after me much faster he could always go,
So I sat and dangled my feet in the cool lake
And out of my sandwich a big bite I did take,
He dropped to all fours and into the forest he went,
I wonder what sort of message to him I sent
