CERTAIN SOUNDS
There are certain sounds that arouse within my heart
Different thoughts and emotions, and each do their part
To help me remember the many days of long gone by,
Some sounds bring thoughts of laughter others a sigh.
The roar of a gale in the lofty trees ever screaming,
The voice of the torrential rain loudly pounding,
The screech of a flair from a ship at sea in distress,
The sound of those waiting in utter hopelessness.
These sounds can chill you right through to the bone,
Especially if as a child those sounds you had known,
Yet they remind you of great courage and of bravery
As fearless men along the coast for others fight the sea.
The sound of a train whistle calling to you in the night,
A plaintive call that can bring either pain or pure delight,
Taking to a loved one far away or bringing one back home,
It can gladden the heart or cause it to feel heavy as a stone.
The sound of water in streams or a graceful waterfall,
Mingles with the voices of nature making many a call,
Joyful sounds that awaken memories of golden days,
Spent in the summers of countrys much slower ways.
The sounds of laughter when playing in rain or sun,
Not caring what you look like for youre having lots of fun,
The voice of youth speaking to you taking years away,
And you long to be a child again even for a single day.
But the best sounds are home sounds like a roaring fire,
The family in the kitchen chatting to their hearts desire,
The sound of sleighbells as the family all together go
Off for a ride through the freshly fallen white snow.
Maybe sitting around a piano or guitar singing in harmony,
With a grandparent holding the youngest one on their knee,
For the sound of harmony in families is one beyond compare,
When this happens there is the sound of heaven there.
