IN VAIN
The angels proclaimed Him Saviour the day He came to earth,
The gift from our loving God which was of the greatest worth,
At age twelve, even then, Saviour-like He showed us the way,
By being about His Fathers business when all thought Him astray.
Being baptized yet perfect to obey all the commandments given,
By His perfect example through life, showed the way to heaven,
Then willing to suffer and die to redeem the whole of mankind
From the grasp of death and sin, so death hath no sting we find.
And we can repent and be forgiven and follow Him all our days,
Show how much we love Him by finding those who do stray,
Working in the mission fields bringing in the ripened sheaves,
Attending the temple, helping those in prison freedom retrieve.
Today our anthems to Heaven should be filled with rejoicing
For He arose from the dead our Saviour, Redeemer and King,
Who cannot strive with an effort sublime sweet heaven to gain?
For if we do not learn and work, it means he suffered in vain.
