CLEANING THE FLOORS
Giving the kitchen floor a good clean,
Wash and then rise to have a nice sheen,
Seems much harder to do these days
Than I remember when I used other ways.

Both kitchen and hardwood floor are fine
As long as they are clean and brightly shine,
When the children were small we did play
A fun game that always helped many a day.

After I’d treated the hardwood floors just right,
Onto eight willing feet rags I’d tie quite tight,
Then shuffling over the large expanse of floor,
They would buffer in fun, a chore once a bore.

Back and forth they went, some fast, some slow,
But one by one the messy streaks would go,
The floor was always quite spot or streak free,
On rainy days we were busy and happy as can be.

The kitchen floor was swept and washed every day,
But once a week we wanted the scuffs taken away,
Once again those happy feet did their willing work,
Not once for any reason did they ever want to shirk.

Today I looked at my kitchen floor, saw streaks and spots,
Went on hands and knees to remove them, there were lots,
That is when I thought back to a much larger kitchen floor,
So putting rags on feet hoping no one would come to the door.
