        POTTED TULIPS
I bought some potted tulips the other day,
What colour they would be I could not say,
They were all still small buds closed tight,
It was hard to tell if they’d be a pretty sight.

Yesterday there were hints of reddish yellow,
So it was hard to see what was then to follow,
A start of something pretty that we could see,
Tomorrow the true colours would be set free.

This morning everywhere was dull and grey
Except on the dinning room table may I say,
Then four of the tulips were in full bloom
And added grace and beauty to a dull room.

The tops are now tipped with yellow so bright
That drifts into a deep red blended just right,
Two or three more blooms still to truly show,
Then when they fade, in the garden they can go.
