REMEMBERING
Do I remember things as they really were,
Or do I think of them the way that I prefer?
Did the roses smell sweeter in years gone by,
And was the sun much brighter in the sky?
Was that northern lake ever quite that still,
Did foxes walk right up to our windowsill?
I know the loons called and woke us at dawn
But in the massive forest did we seen a fawn?
I remember well these things in my mind clear,
Going to the dump to see bears with no fear,
Waiting for the mighty moose to move away
So you could drive past and get on your way.
I love to remember all the things past and gone,
Remember the joy as many tasks were done,
I could write remember poems until forever,
I dont think I repeat myself or think me clever.
I remember the long straight road back into town,
Then the last stretch twisting almost upside down,
But I think I need to go again to get things right,
Is it really such a wonderful and peaceful sight?
