WHEN JESUS RETURNED TO NAZARETH
Luke Ch 4: vs 16-30
When Jesus returned to Nazareth and went into the synagogue to pray,
He was asked to choose and read the scriptures on that special day,
He opened the sacred scroll looked at the friends that he knew well
And through the scriptures clear, who He was He did plainly to tell.
They knew of His healing power, that was spread far and wide,
But He was just a Nazarene, their contempt they could not hide,
He was Joseph and Marys son who lived in the main square,
He could not be the long promised Messiah, Jesus standing there.
He spoke to them of the truth and showed them the true light,
Yet they all wanted to stone Him and rid Him from their sight,
How His heart must have ached when his friend did not believe,
I wonder did they think that Jesus would them want to deceive.
A prophet is not oft accepted by his own, were words Jesus said.
Did He know He would be scorned by them but still went ahead
And read that scripture, so loud and clear for everyone to hear,
I wonder if He hoped that to a few the true would be quite clear.
The scriptures do not tell us of true followers from His home town,
And when He vanished from their midst did they scowl and frown,?
Or did they then realize on quiet reflection, this Jesus they knew,
Their friend and playmate was the Messiah and His words were true.
