THE STORY OF A RED PLATE
For Christmas a friend gave to me a pretty plate of red,
With instructions that told, a family member should be fed
To show appreciation for something nice they have done,
It need only be something small for the plate to be won.
This is a sweet tradition that goes back to pioneer days,
When times were very hard and there was need for praise,
Maybe all the other plates were tin so imagine the glee
When you had your dinner on the red plate for all to see.
Red was the symbol of good health and true love too,
Red was always in quilts in the middle if not right through,
Im sure the sentiment of the red plate is still needed today,
So every now and them have a red plate at dinner on display.
