A NIGHT IN WINTER
The night was very cold and still,
A halo bright around the moon,
Stars shone like diamonds until
You thought the night would die too soon.
For it seemed so perfect everywhere,
Even the clouds glowed bright in the sky,
Our earth a frosted garden so fair,
Watched them play with the moon up high.
Ice crusted branches of each silver tree
Stood like guardians tall and strong,
Stark rocks and a frozen lake to see,
With wolves howling their hunting song.
A peaceful scene on that icy night
To sooth the soul and calm the heart,
A winters picture to see of pure delight,
I am glad that I could see and take part.
That first Christmas, how was it then,
Did the moon and start shine out with joy,
Was it as peaceful as this winter glen,
Was night very serine at the birth of that baby boy?
