A DRAGONFLY’S BEAUTY
When summer was here and I awoke before the sun,
I watched her rise over the lake as a new day begun,
I saw in the glistening morning glow a lovely dragonfly,
It sparkled with jeweled colours as it flew gracefully by.

Turquoise. emeralds, peridot encased in gossamer,
Sparkling precious gems flying on frail wings, how far
I know not but it came to me as a gift of rare beauty.
I was the only one in the garden this rare sight to see.

It landed on a flower and drank deeply the morning dew
And sipped at the nectar that in that fragrant flower grew,
I watched in wonder at this jeweled insect shining so bright,
Then to my joy a partner came, that too glowing with light.

No emerald in a ring, no turquoise or peridot broach
Could the beauty of these flying paragons even approach,
Dazzling, glittering and radiant in the early morning sun,
What a wonderful way for a new day to have begun.
