MOUSE VISITOR
A timid little mouse hid near the window pane
Inside that cozy house entrance wished to gain,
Whiskers all a-quiver he peeked in once more,
To his horror saw a cat asleep near the door.
A well fed cat who wouldnt want mouse for dinner,
And the creature looked kind and good, not a sinner
Who would eat a fellow animal sheltering from the cold,
Could he be made welcome into this warm household?
Oh no! another cat, hes fatter and bigger than ever,
Not even a mouthful of food just as light as a feather
Would I be, perhaps theyll make friends and well play,
I think Ill sneak inside and just a little while come to stay.
Shes opening the door to feed animals scraps outside,
Ill rush in right now and behind the sofa go and hide,
I promise not to nibble much or leave crumbs behind,
A more quieter, grateful houseguest you will not find.
Hey Sky a mouse has just ran in the house, did you see?
He can stay as long as he likes if it is left up to me,
Sky opened one eye which was as blue as the cold sky,
Ill pretend I did not hear that, and by the warm fire lie.
The home received a new pet that day, only the cats knew,
Soon the mouse became bold as fatter and bigger he grew,
The cats used to pretend to stalk him, down the vents look
When they heard scratching noises, a paw raised in a hook.
The mouse settled, but in his heart he wants far to roam
So when it is spring hell pack his pack and leave this home.
When the cold weather returns he knows that cats will play,
Welcome him back and so for the cold winter to stay.
