STAYING UP
I may stay up quite late tonight to let the new year in,
Find a TV station ready for the countdown to begin,
Sing ‘Auld Lang Syne” and remember the year past
And all the blessings and joys so freely on me cast.

I would be an ungrateful child if my gifts I for granted took
For they are legion and as I count and the more I do look
The gifts given me are far more than I could ever deserve I feel,
From the bounties of harvest to His tender hands that heal.

I will make the effort to stay up, try and find a special way
Of thanking Heavenly Father for all the gifts that come my way,
New year’s resolutions too soon fade away and quickly die,
When that happens it is like promising some empty, great big lie.

I’ll ask what would He have me do to live a much better way,
Every morning from now on, ask anew the question every day,
Seek for heavenly treasures, let no opportunity pass me by
To help someone in need, never ignore a silent heartfelt sigh.

So along with the countdown of the dying year I will add
With a grateful heart for gifts, a promise I’ll be ever glad
For a loving God and His Son, a debt I could never pay,
Safe by giving of my all and by serving Him every day.
