MISSING SUMMER
Although it is good to watch the snow fall to the ground,
And theres a special silent beauty everywhere to be found,
Hushed is all sound save for the wind sighing soft and low,
There is a blanket of clean white beauty everywhere we go.
Better by far for me are long warm, pleasant summer days,
When the sun sinks quite late in a gentle restful, steamy haze,
Yet if we had no winter, no stormy days of ice and snow,
I dont think I would appreciate dear, sweet summer so.
Come, look through my window at my garden carpeted with snow,
And then see other pictures of grace and beauty everywhere we go,
Winter with its priceless treasure of ice diamonds cold and rare,
Giving us views of loveliness that are hard in words to share.
Lofty trees encased in ice, yet they seem to ignore they are cold,
Firs and pines all decorated with sparkling jewels for all to behold
After the snow has ceased to fall and winter calm is everywhere,
The sky, a vivid blue, is a picture of vibrant treasure beyond compare.
So maybe summer can wait for a while yet, a short time at least,
While I absorb the great beauty of this magnificent winter feast,
Then I realized that it is each moment that counts the most,
Now I will love the winter, think of summer as a friendly ghost.
