        CHRISTMAS COOKING
When it’s time to do the extra cooking
For Christmas, working while I sing,
It can be sometimes quite frustrating
During my great big cooking fling.

The puddings I have hidden quite well,
Or there would be none left I could tell
For when I said only eat one each face fell,
For Christmas cooking all year should dwell,

Mince pies I cannot make to freeze at all,
It is as though the pies give out a loud call,
“I’m here to be eaten whatever may befall,”
Then they are gone, none left! what gall!

I have just made the cashew butter brittle,
But to hide that I have to be very fickle,
Perhaps tucked behind the homemade pickle,
Oh no! found cooling how far will it whittle,

That rich chocolate fudge they will not find,
For none for Christmas would be a real bind,
I hope I can remember what it’s hiding behind,
It will keep awhile if not found who would mind.

Now my Christmas cake smelt good the other night,
And to stop it from being a square was quite a fight,
When I make the almond paste so very rich yet light,
I have to lock myself away completely out of sight.

But with lots of effort when comes Christmas day
There are goodies for all and some to give away,
So if you are hungry why not come around our way
And pig out, put on some weight and for awhile stay.
