More poems about Lakes and Rivers

LAKE MOODS
Have you ever seen the lake when it is still
And there is a perfect reflection and so fill
Us with double beauty of nature all around,
And everywhere is peaceful a silent sound?

Have you seen the lake when waves leap high,
Dashing upon the rocks, wetting those walking by,
White crests reaching far out bright on the grey
And the lake roars like a wounded beast all day.

Have you seen the lake when it is a pathway of gold,
Shimmering in beauty just before night begins to unfold,
The sun maybe gone but the colours linger for awhile
Before the lake turns to blue velvet, a change in her style.

Have you seen the lake when grey mists rise like ghosts,
Ethereal shadows from trees turn into haunted hosts
Of lost souls seeking freedom after being long hidden,
And they creep forward silently and surely unbidden.

Have you seen the lake when the horizon is perfectly clear,
So that the far distant shore appears so remarkably near,
The blue is so vivid and sweet loveliness is everywhere,
There is nowhere else I want to be but standing right there.

Have you seen the lake when the morning sun wakes red
And the glories of heaven above you are before you spread
Over the lake like a rich satin red grown trimmed with lace
As a new day begins and fills the earth with God’s grace.
