More poems about other animals

ALL ALONE
It is not very often that you see a horse all alone
In a large field left by himself to wander and roam,
Head bent down busily eating, did he really know
How much heartache and sympathy we did show?

His coat was dark brown or black, it was hard to tell,
His tail was long and thick, his lovely mane as well,
How many hands tall he stood we could not quite see,
As in the field he stood, then raised his head quite stately.

To keep a horse by himself I was told was ever so cruel,
For they are very social animals and that it is a kindly rule,
That a horse is always with some type of animal for company,
So all alone in a field no horse at all should ever have to be.

I wonder was he really sad, did his poor horse heart realize
That he was in solitude, no other animals with him of any size,
Perhaps he wanted to stay outside a little longer and so see
The end of fall, and of the stuffy barn a while more to be free.
