KEEP AND GIVE
There are many things that we can keep
and also give away,
I’ll only tell about the good ones
on this happy day,
As I write there maybe some
I will forget,
But of the ones I’ll mention
my heart is set.
I will give my word and keep it
if a promise I make,
Never break my word for dear
honour’s noble sake,
I will give my love freely to
all those I meet,
And somehow the more love I
give the more I keep.
I will give away a kindly deed
to some sad friend,
And even to a person I do not know
a little kindness send,
And although you may not seek it,
kindness comes to you,
And even on the darkest day
light comes into view.
I will give away much friendship
and watch love grow,
Then friendship comes from those
once you did not know,
You cannot give friendship and not
watch yours still grow.
Then there is knowledge that we
should be willing to share,
Give of the things you know to show
that you really care,
For as you give away your knowledge,
you not only keep it but gain
A knowledge that will grow to be
used time and time again.
