        WHY DO COWS SIT DOWN?
Sometimes you see the cows standing altogether,
Then they sit, and this depends on the weather,
For cows are quite clever, they don’t have a man
To forecast coming rain, they have their own plan.

For cows have funny tummies, quite a few you see,
Not one tummy, that humans have like you and me,
If their grass is too wet, it is not just one tummy pain,
But lots, so keeping the grass dry is their common aim.

They know by some instinct when rain is on the way,
So they sit down to chew their cud and there they stay,
Then they have dry grass to eat and not get at all ill,
Imagine if they get tummy ache the size of the pill!

You may see a mixture of cows standing and sitting down,
The older ones are wise and sit, not wallow in pain and frown
When the wet grass they eat, and soon younger ones will learn
That they need to sit on a patch of their own dry grass to earn.

So if you are not sure of the weather, go to and look in a field
Where the cows graze, if sitting an umbrella you’ll need,
But if standing then that umbrella you can safely put away,
I’m sure you’ll not need it while the cows in the field stay.
