LOSING SUMMER
Losing summer to early sweet fall is easy to do,
A gentle reduction in heat the months through,
For the bounties of these seasons never stop
Blessing us, as we harvest crop after loaded crop.
Dying summer is not noticed as fall comes our way,
Although activities may reduce, long days not stay,
But there is no sadness in her quiet gentle passing,
For autumn gifts crowds us with sweet forgetting.
Who cannot shout for joy as these seasons entwine
Almost as one in giving to us their bounty sublime,
Yet these friends cannot stay they must say farewell
They must leave us for awhile, without them to dwell.
Now well supplied for winters cold freezing days,
Learning again to enjoy winters much different ways,
Even if we do not like or delve in snow type activity,
We can with true appreciation enjoy its great beauty.
But now in mid-August let us soak up the gifts that come
With the best summer can offer, we never should be glum,
Even sitting in the back garden reading a good book,
And at the beauty all around just stop and take a look.
