        PAINTED TOE NAILS
Did you know that about seventy five percent
Of women much time will have been quietly spent,
Painting their pretty toe nails colours of every hue ?
So I started looking closely at every open toed shoe.

You may be surprised at the number of cute toes
On most sandaled feet and goodness only knows
How many may be hidden under a covered shoe,
Mind you, this idea is far from being really new.

In Bible days it was done by women of ill repute,
Not really well dressed ladies in a business suit,
Or wearing very smart slacks or a pretty new dress,
Most showing painted toe nails, very pretty I confess.

Riding the subway at many toes I started to glance,
Looking how many were painted and by chance
A dozen ladies standing at least that I could see
Only one pair plain, the others as bright as could be.

Along the sidewalk I began counting the painted toes
Showing bare or even seen through their panty hose,
Did this always happen that so many came to view
For the unpainted toes were indeed so very few,

I am the minority, though I don’t think it’s wrong,
In fact I am tempted to join the great throng
Of pretty coloured toes, but it wouldn’t work for me,
For I have a middle toe that is as ugly as it can be.

We may have found a new sport, my husband and I,
Looking at sandaled feet seeing what coloures we spy,
Look at that foot all painted, believe it if you can,
It’s quite big and hairy and it belongs to a man!
