More poems about Scripture

        REASONS WHY
I think I know why my writing talent is fading away,
It came to me clearly after I prayed the other day,
I am not reading the scriptures as often as I ought,
Missing the spirituality of learning what God has taught.

I may have read by giving them a quick cursory glance,
Thought I was too busy to read, didn’t have the chance
To pick up my scriptures, or read the one near my bed,
But from now on I will study, I will study, be spiritually fed.

Maybe there are other things I do to stop the fast flow
Of the ideas for my poems as through this life I go,
I feel I need to earn the right to have and own my gift
From God, so myself and others around gently lift.

Maybe lethargy or having bad thoughts, or don’t care,
Or want to hide away, not willing to be always there
For others around, please, Lord, show me my weakness
So I may serve thee better and Thy name always confess.

I’ll try and see the good in all the folks that I do meet,
Always offer thanks for the good things we have to eat,
Maybe I’m judgmental and this is such a terrible sin.
Please help me improve and let Thy spirit stay within.

When we served our mission, poems flowed all the time,
We were constantly serving never did moan or whine,
We read and studied the scriptures every single day,
And we could not count the blessings that came our way.

Bless me Lord with the strength to improve more each day,
Help me follow in Thy footsteps and in the light stay,
Lead me, guide me, help me Thy will for me always know,
So I will not throw away the gifts that on me thou does bestow.
