ORPHANED BIRDS
The poor mother bird lay dead upon the ground,
In a nest in a bush two hungry chicks were found,
The family were unhappy to see this very sad sight,
What could they do to save the chicks from their plight?

They were too young to feed themselves or fly away,
It was certain they too would be dead the next day,
No one seemed too care to much but this caring family
That had peeked into the bush the birds often to see.

Every place they called no one knew what to do,
Until someone mentioned the old Buffalo Zoo,
Now a wildlife centre helping animals when they can,
Yes, they had baby bird formula, it’s part of their plan.

Very carefully the nest complete was carried carefully
In the car for about hour that night on Emily’s little knee,
Daddy driving carefully, asking if the birds were still alive,
All the family praying that the two birds would survive.

They were still opening their mouths and flapping their wings
When they arrived at the Buffalo farm, those poor little things,
Placed into foster parents hands, that was all the family could do,
They wondered all that night if the birdies would pull through.

A phone call, and a happy family, the chicks were doing fine
They have this special mixture on which baby birds can dine.
This is a lovely true story from our family who love it up north,
A tale to add to old family stories, and one of great worth.
