SONNET 89 - SUMMER CAME
Summer came to us just the other day,
With oppressive heat and sun shining bright,
Late she did come, after fighting a great fight,
We thought shed lost the battle through cold May.
Now in her strength she is at last here to stay,
Through warm summer days and very short nights,
Giving us many hours of lovely light,
A time for relaxing, a time to play.
Summer in loveliness has come our way,
Filling us with sweet joy and warm delight,
All dressed in beauty, a glorious sight
Of thousands of flowers and trees that sway.
This year, summer, we have waited long,
Please stay with us and sing your sweetest song.
