HOME
What comes to mind when you think of home?
If you asked the people who do often roam
Many different answers would come your way,
I set out to find what most people would say.

A child playing with his dog happily in the park.
Home is a safe place to go when it turns dark,
Wash my hands for a meal, a bath before bed,
All of us together when night prayers are said.

A well dressed woman carrying a brief case.
At the moment for me there is no such place,
An apartment near work, a place to relax awhile,
Home died long ago she said with a sad smile.

There was no need to ask the family at the Zoo,
The love and togetherness came shining through,
You could tell that they had a home not a house,
For there was love for children and each spouse.

A long distance truck driver taking a needed break.
A wife and a child, the cat, this my home does make,
The image keeps my wheels turning to return home,
Oh, how it hurts when every day I have far to roam.

An old beggar on the street, I did not want to greet
But he beckoned me and with joy me he did meet,
Home is just love, not a house, it is a place in the heart,
And maybe a spot in heaven when this life we depart.

Home is where the heart is, home is really a state of mind,
As long as there is a feeling of love, a home you can find,
Cherished memories maybe all that is left but it is home
And a place in the mind to return to even as we do roam.
