Remember, the three modes of material nature are usually mixed in various combinations. Compare the effect of one tune against another to gather an idea of these concepts applied to music. Music, it should be remembered, is in the ears of the beholder.

It is difficult to say that any music is without Goodness, or is purely in the mode of
Passion or Ignorance. While Goodness in music stimulates the intellect and spiritual
values of the listener, Passion arouses lust, anger, or selfish desires. Ignorance in
music is seen in the dulling repition of a beat or base line, or as a curt, undeveloped,
overworked melody line.
In the two works below, notice how sometimes the exciting melody
stimultates our passions, while the droning repetitious beat and base (Ignorance) shuts
down the mind. Ignorance can intensify the effect of Passion because it turns off our more
noble sentiments (Goodness).
