 Damion

Damion

the blueness in the
smoke is like the
flower in your hair-
pale blue and ethereal;
matching the blue of your mind.
and the smoke, seething from
your lungs like a hot dragon,
adds to your contagion.
the half-closed eyes are
not your own, damion-
they belong to the mindless
and the dead.
in your mind the alien molecules flow-
pulling you away from us.
are you forever lost damion?
will you be forever separated from us-
nodding there while we're praying?

damion
is fast asleep-
his memories sleep
with him, and within his sleep
the heroin erodes his dreams.
his half-gaping mouth derides us;
his ruffled clothes and unkempt hair
tells us the true dream.
we can't uncover his pain-
his loneliness
is alien to us.
he might as well be dead,
or half-buried!
look
at him,
there,
with his feet halfway in
the grave!

pale light casts a
shadow
on he half-mound of
white powder.
in the room the sound
of heavy breathing
breaks the silence.
his
mind is
silent-
shut off from the outside
world;
locked in itself as if a
total
cerebral accident
had occurred.
this stroke is not
accidental
damion-
it was contrived by you
long ago.
it was the key to your
final discontinuity-
dividing mind and body.
you are destroyed
damion-
as dead as a cadaver
with pale, yellow teeth;
as lifeless
as the pale moon.
the breath in your lungs
gives no sustenance-
the sight in your eye
sees no light-
your heartbeat is in
vain.
and in your
vein
the poison flows-
those alien molecules
that kill men while
they walk.
who's to blame, damion?
