A Statue of Great Cthulhu
Great Cthulhu

This is a statue by an artist named Flores. Here is what he says about it:

"I possess a figurine of Cthulhu fashioned in green clay, about 8 inchs tall. I fashioned it myself while receiving revelations, in the trance-like state the Quran describes as 'wahii'. It is an exact replica of the statuette encountered by Legrasse in the bayous of Louisiana. The base is inscribed with a curse in Old Akkadian cuneiform, and the Arabic 'fi baitihi Ra'Allah, tahlemu Kthulhu mowtaa.' Literal translation: 'In his house of Ra'Allah, dead Cthulhu dreams'."

" BTW, there is a grammatical error in the Arabic. Technically, it should read 'fi baitiha', rather than 'fi baitihi', that is referring to 'hers' rather than 'his', to agree with tahlemu which is a feminine form.

This is not to say that Cthulhu is female, but it is a convention in Arabic to refer to ideas and inanimate objects in the singular feminine, whether actually male or not. On the other hand, if Cthulhu is definitely to be regarded as male, then instead tahlemu should be changed to yahlemu. But then it is perhaps best not to tamper with revelations and just leave the script as it is, thus preserving its ambiguities. What do you think? "
