The secret to Mashed Potatoes:
Ingredients: 1 5-pound bag of potatoes, any kind salt 1 stick of butter 1/4 cup milkDirections
1. Peal and quarter the potatoes. 2. Put them in a large cooking pot and boil them until a fork can penetrate easily. 3. Strain off the water and let sit for about 1 minute. 4. Put them into a large mixing bowl, add salt, butter, milk and mix.IMPORTANT NOTES
1. DO NOT overboil the potatoes - that will give you potato soup. As soon as you can easily penetrate them with a fork, they are done. 2. DO NOT let the potatoes get cold before mixing them. DO mix the ingredients while they are still hot. (If you mix ingredients after the potatoes cool, they will turn out rubbery and the taste will be off. Still edible, but not so good.) 3. You can add salt to the potatoes while they boil, if you wish. 4. Add salt, butter, milk - GRADUALLY - while you mix, just follow your intuition. Add some mix, add some mix. Don't add a lot of milk unless you want it watery. 5. The potatoes are ready right now; however, if you make them early like I do, you can put them in a baking dish, put some slabs of butter on top and and some pepper, and then bake it on a really low temp (maybe 300 deg) for a while.
