THE DANCER

She never had a dance class,
        nor taught the proper way
        to make her movements resemble
        the dancers on a stage.

She only has her hungry soul
        to answer what she hears
        when the music overcomes her
        and passes through her ears
        .

        The sounds of hearty melodies
reach in and touch this soul.
They lead her into heights of fantasy
        and her movements now unfold.

        She moves with natural feeling
        as the harmonies ignite
        the core of every passion
        she holds so deep inside.

Her arms reach out to heaven
The ground below is no more
        Her feet glide so softly
as if there were no floor.

        Clouds of mist surround her
        as she gracefully twirls around
        Rays of glittered sunlight
is all that can be found.

        In these precious moments
        only happiness does she see
        To have this feeling forever
is the way she would have it be.

All too soon the music ends
        Fantasy is no more
She realizes that in her wheelchair
she is anchored to the floor.

Do not pity this tiny dancer
cause you feel she is not whole.
She dances gracefully in her heart
the music is in her soul.

Janiece is a close friend of mine. She has requested that I extend to you the knowledge that we don't have to be in a wheelchair to have anchors in our lives. In fact, she believes that we can be hendered from reaching our dreams through our 'fear of trying' alone.

Her message is: Never be afraid to reach for your heart's desires. Instead, take joy in reaching them.
