Typhoons are below the equator and hurricanes are north of the equator. Otherwise there is no difference. Having survived numerous instances of both types I feel somewhat qualified to answer!
You've probably already received a couple of dozen messages like this, but in case not... A "hurricane" is the name given to a tropical storm occurring in the Atlantic Ocean or Eastern Pacific Ocean. (Hurricane Nora for example.) A "typhoon" is the exact same sort of storm, it's just that it's occurring on the western side of the Pacific Ocean. |
