I used to go through the same thing back when I was living in the same area where I had completed my bachelor's degree. I kept meeting my old French professor in the supermarket. He'd unleash a torrent of French at me, and I would quickly mumble "bonjour je vais bien merci et vous au revoir" and beat a hasty exit... It is amazing how similar our islands are... giving directions in terms of former landmarks is also a Rhode Island trait...
