The weather has been strange this week. First, it was raining. Raining a lot. Now it's been sunny and clear. Last night I fell asleep to the sound of a rain-gutter sputtering outside, and today I drove to school under a sky straight out of a postcard. It's rained off and on, but the sky can't make up its mind. We're talking three hours between miserable-and-gray and bright-and-blue. It's also been cold. Finally and deliciously cold. Of course, this is the thin-skinned Hawai`i resident definition of cold -- somewhere around 68 degrees at night. Toasty for an eskimo, maybe, but "bundle-up weather" for me. It feels like winter's here... and I love it. The sweaters came out today, the thickest comforter I've got is on the bed, and I'm cozily padding around the apartment in a big fuzzy robe that I was laughing at having kept only three months ago... Don't think I'll want a fireplace, but some hot cocoa would be nice. I don't know about anyone else, but this kind of weather always give me an overwhelming desire to cuddle... I hope this at least lasts through the long weekend (November rules!). Today, unfortunately, the only people looking for some cuddling were a pair of funny smelling new admits at work.
On Tuesday, Nader lost, Morgado lost, Carlisle won and Abercrombie won. Two-out-of-two isn't bad, although the only surprise might be Carlisle (I guess Arakawa's sashimi wasn't so great after all). Though I wanted Carlisle to win, it'll be interesting to see how he and our decidedly... shall I say, "ethnic" police force get along. I'm not exactly happy that Clinton was re-elected, by the way. I actually thought he was going to get a closer race than he did; a surpring number of people I knew came out of the Republican closet last week. But, Dole took a tumble (again). While we'll have to survive four more years of scandal and mysterious deaths, at least I won't have to emigrate to Canada. (Clinton's coming to Hawai`i now... just what we need, more closed freeways and shiny happy Democrats).
Ever have one of those moments of enlightenment when you realize a long-held hatred of something or someone -- the roots of which have long since disappeared in the mists of antiquity -- turned out to be absolutely, completely and totally justified? Though I won't go into the juicy details, let's just say I got e-mail today from an Internet Cafe fan who took objection to its listing on my cobwebbed suck page. Now I feel more confident than ever that it belongs there. |
