I was afraid. afraid for the people who did it.

In my religion, we believe that the dead are fully aware of everything that we do in this life. They try to help us as much as they can, share our joys, and are saddened by our poor judgement. Many times I have changed my course because I didn't want to bring shame to my ancestors. I think that many of those who went before us were saddened by what happened, but there is no blessing until a trial of faith. Already groups are coming together to repair the damage, and this act of foolishness will become an opportunity for unity and service; an added opportunity to bring honor to those who served and to those who died. You might find some value in getting involved in some way, since those who have gone before us can help us with what lies ahead. Stephen
Date: Wed, 30 Apr 1997 09:13:34 -1000 I have always wondered what sort of person it took to desecrate graveyards and such. It hurt me deeply to see those pictures last week... I guess it just seems to mean a lot more now that I serve in the Navy. Not that it doesn't impact others... oh no, just that some little voice speaks up everynow and then to say "someday, if you really do your job, that could be you." As for who did it, I doubt it was a bunch of kids. At least, it seems too organized. It looks like multiple groups working rapidly at the same time probably did the damage. I just hope it all cleans up. Bill |
