How we intend to oppose the proposed vocational training
A group of concerned students and interns from the University of Pretoria met to discuss
the best form of action to take with regards the proposed changes in the law concerning the
future of medical education in South Africa. It was decided that the only way to protect our rights would
be to take the matter to court .
The Pretoria based law firm Dyason and partners was selected due to their experience in the
constitutional court. They studied our problem and indicated to us that we stood a good chance
of winning our case. Further information concerning the firm and their proposals can be found
at "How the case is to be fought"
The price of the case is large due to the number of people that it requires to take a case to the
constitiutional court. The rough figure that was given to us was R200000 and we were required to
place a deposit of R50000 before they were prepared to take the case. The good news is that that the
money required for the deposit has been raised and the case has been accepted. The main focus of the
commitee is now to raise the remaining money. Further information about the amount of money raised
thus far, how you can contribute and how the money is being controlled can be found at
"Financing of SADAMSA" Money raised thus far has been through donations
from medical students, interns and other interested parties. The average amount donated by students
has been in the region of R250 per student. All money donated that is not used will be devided pro rata
amoungst the contributers so keep your deposit slip. Deposits can be made at any Trust Bank branch
and account details can be found below. It is very important that the correct internal account number is
used as there are a numder of Dyason trust accounts.
