Judith Lesley Johnson was born May 20, 1946, in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. She grew up in Ffestiniog, Wales, and later moved to London to train in dance and drama. She has two sisters, Celia and Rosemary, and one brother, Julian.

Judi Johnson was a model, actress, singer, and dancer. In 1964, she appeared in non-speaking roles in two movies: Carry on Cleo and Carry on Spying. That same year, she recorded two songs under the HMV record label: "My Baby's Face" and "Make the Most of It". In 1965, she recorded two more songs for HMV under the name Judi Johnson and the Perfections: "How Many Times" and "A Way Out". The latter two songs can be found on the CD Dream Babes Volume 3 released in 2001. Also in 1965, she won the competition "Search for a Star" and was featured in an hour-long television special.

Judi met Charles Thomas Hardy in London in 1971. Judi was working at the London Dolphinarium, and Charles was there training two dolphins he had escorted over from the Florida Keys. Judi moved to America with Charles, and they married on November 20, 1971. They had two children: James (1974) and Laura (1977) and lived in the Florida Keys until 1974 when they moved to SC. Judi was a stay-at-home mom, homemaker, and in the early 80s was a dance instructor.
