Study Guide for Energy-Cell Theory-Diffusion/Active Transport-ATP/Enzymes
You should know the following:
- The concept of energy:
- potential
- kinetic
- examples of each
- how this concept relates to a cell.
- ATP as a storage molecule of energy for the cell:
- know it's structure
- how it relates to food.
- know the ATP - ADP cycle
- The concept of diffusion and active transport:
- how each operates.
- similarities and differences between them.
- how they relate to the functions of a living cell.
- The concept of the cell theory:
- know the basic premise of the cell theory.
- know the major contributors to the theory.
- know all the major cell parts and how they function in a cell.
- you should be able to identify all of these parts within a cell.
- you should know the similarities and differences between plant and animal cells.
Enzymes
You should know the method by which enzymes operate; ie.e the lock and key hypothesis.
You should know the factors that affect enzyme activity; temperature, pH, etc.
You should be able to recognize an enzyme, the enzyme substrate complex and the products of a reaction, especially if shown to you symbolically.
