Study Guide for Energy-Cell Theory-Diffusion/Active Transport-ATP/Enzymes

You should know the following:

  1. The concept of energy:
    1. potential
    2. kinetic
    1. examples of each
    2. how this concept relates to a cell.

  2. ATP as a storage molecule of energy for the cell:
    1. know it's structure
    2. how it relates to food.
    3. know the ATP - ADP cycle

  3. The concept of diffusion and active transport:
    1. how each operates.
    2. similarities and differences between them.
    3. how they relate to the functions of a living cell.

  4. The concept of the cell theory:
    1. know the basic premise of the cell theory.
    2. know the major contributors to the theory.
    3. know all the major cell parts and how they function in a cell.
    4. you should be able to identify all of these parts within a cell.
    5. you should know the similarities and differences between plant and animal cells.

Enzymes

  • You should know the method by which enzymes operate; ie.e the lock and key hypothesis.
  • You should know the factors that affect enzyme activity; temperature, pH, etc.
  • You should be able to recognize an enzyme, the enzyme substrate complex and the products of a reaction, especially if shown to you symbolically.
