Danger

And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come,
and the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets,
and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great;
and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
(Revelation 11:18)

In the beginning of the Bible, when man was created,
mankind was given a job to do.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them,
Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:
and have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing
that moveth upon the earth.

Mankind was given by God dominion over the earth. Which means mankind was to care for the earth. The word replenish is used which indicates that there may have been another race on this mud ball before us. Which could also give us indication as to where devils and demons have come from. Then the word subdue is used. Which would indicate a bringing under control and a making useful. Subdue however would not indicate using the land and then leaving it spoiled and toxic. Subdue would not indicate the eradication of whole species from the earth either. God wanted mankind to bring the earth to a point where it was productive and beneficial to the human race. Now, is that what mankind has done?

There is another verse to consider when thinking on how well mankind has cared for the earth.

Woe unto them that join house to house,
that lay field to field, till there be no place,
that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
(Isaiah 5:8)

This would indicate to me that we should have built more parks and gardens and sub wilderness areas where folks could go to be alone with the Lord. Now I said “sub wilderness” because I do not believe in this idea of an untouched pristine wilderness area. Maybe near unto it but not totally untouched. A person should not have to risk his or her life to go out and be alone with God. Remember that the key word that we started out with was subdue.

However, that verse above would also indicate to me that there will be housing developers and other such folk who will be in some deep trouble when they stand before the Lord God of Heaven.

Again, the words that we are working with here are replenish and subdue. Neither of these words indicate reconstruction or recreation. However, we have folks who are working at just such things. There are folks who are fooling around with the very building blocks of God’s creation for their own profit and fame.

I guess that the seed companies are most involved in this, but there are other industries as well, fooling with genetic engineering. This I believe places us all in great danger, and that especially by the seed companies.

We have reached a point where our food supplies depend on a very few massive multinational corporations. Maybe as few as ten world wide. These have for many years been producing what is called hybrid seed. This is a seed that cannot reproduce itself.

Maybe in order to understand this better I should take you back to when I was a youngster. I grew up on a dairy farm in northern Wisconsin. We raised hay and oats for feed. We would raise hay on a field for a number of years and then plow and plant oats and some kind of a hay (clover, alfalfa, Timothy,) with the oats. The oats were the cover crop for the hay in order that it might get a good start in its first year. The oats we planted were saved from the crop cut the year before. Pa would cut the oat crop and save some for the next years seed and then use the majority of the crop for cow feed. We only went to a seed company for new seed when Pa wanted to change the type of oats we were growing.

If my Pa were still farming today or if I had followed him into farming we would not be able to save seed from one year to plant the next year. That is because the seed is all “hybrid”, and it cannot reproduce itself. The seed companies have engineered the seed so that the farmer has to come back to them every year for new seed and this is old news. The newest seeds coming out can reproduce themselves but have to have a chemical trigger added during the growing season or the plant will not mature. This would be a herbicide or some other such thing sold by the same company that supplied the seed. I do not believe that I have to explain how this is profitable to the seed companies.

The danger here is multiple. The first is well known. Folks worry that with genetic engineering a mistake might be made and the food become harmful to humans or the cattle it is used to feed.

The second danger is that a mistake might be made in production of the seed and crop failure result. If there are only about 10 big multinational corporations and a mistake is made by one of these it could mean the failure of a 10th of the worlds crop of corn, or wheat, or oats, or rice. That is a massive dent in the food supply of a world that can hardly feed it’s population now. But wait just a moment. Suppose this corporation happens to make the same mistake with all it’s seeds and it happens to produce seed for corn, wheat, oats, and rice and now we have crop failure for each of these products. That is a tenth of all the corn, and a tenth of all the wheat, and a tenth of all the oats, and a tenth of all the rice. Now you who do better in math than I, figure out just how many people will starve to death because some scientist, or lab worker in the U.S. made a mistake!

The third danger is a disruption in the distribution of the seed or the chemical needed to make it grow. The first and most likely reason for this is war. A world war disrupting the shipment of products could bring about crop failure of all world crops.

This now makes me think of the Book of the Revelation and the four horses of the apocalypse. The second horse is the red horse of war and is followed by famine.

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say,
A measure of wheat for a penny,
and three measures of barley for a penny;
and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

Mankind is working in many ways to destroy the earth that God gave him to care for. In some ways that I have not even mentioned or may not be aware of myself. However, this messing with the foundations, or building blocks may be the most dangerous and damming. And to think, that it is the richest and most knowledgeable of mankind that is doing this.

By the way, a penny at the time of the writing of the Revelation was about a days wages, and a measure is about a quart. So what we are looking at is a quart of wheat for a days wages or three quarts of barley for a days wages.
