Colorado Trail at Kenosha Pass

Back to Hikes

This hike is short, extremely easy but not a lot of geology.  It does afford some great views of South Park and aspen when they are changing in the Fall.

The trail leaves the parking area at the top of Kenosha Pass (10,000') and is part of the Colorado Trail.  As I said, it is a very easy walk through aspen groves, with some conifers and meadows intermixed.
Not much in the way of rocks, although you occasionally will encounter some metamorphics and granites along the trail.  Nothing to get worked up about however.
Enjoy the walk, the trees, the wildflowers, and perhaps even the occasional cow that wanders across your path.
At about 1.75 miles, there are some rocks which represent the Lost Creek Road Porphyry.  You can also find some of this rock along Lost Creek Road (big surprise!), but the view from this spot is well worth the little bit of extra effort.
