Major Sam Adams; Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam, February 1992.

"Sam Adams. Major Sam Adams. I have been trying to recall his name for years, and suddenly, just now, the name popped out of the fog. Somewhat heavyset, his thinning hair camouflaged by his close crew cut, nearly always with a cigar in his mouth, chewing - he was the picture of a seasoned Marine, comfortable in the field. You wouldn't find him on a recruitment poster. When you needed someone to look good in dress blues, you might get an actor or a model. But when you needed to get out of deep shit, you wanted Sam Adams at your side. It made you feel sheltered when he was around because you sensed he knew what had to be done, that he had control. Major Adams was the Operations Officer for the 2d Battalion, 4th Marines, and he was a good one.
"I still have the 35mm slide I took of Major Adams during Operation Double Eagle. We had stopped for the day and were settling in. For a moment, the sun broke through the otherwise incessant rain - odd how that happened. Major Adams was nearby, and I took his picture." (Excerpted from Images from the Otherland.)
General P.X. Kelley told me that Sam died several years ago. He was a special Marine, and I am indebted to him.
Semper Fi.

If you have any information that might help me find any of Major Adams relatives, I would be grateful to hear from you.
