September 13, 1997

Not too long ago, my mother rummaged through some old boxes of tapes. I didn't pay much heed at the time, but not long after I heard a very familiar tune on the HIFI.

Anyone remember the Smurfs? ;-)

I don't remember who bought the tape, whether it was a gift or simply because I was Smurf-crazed (was I? Naaaah.. really!), but I do remember when I was a kid, I'd listen to the songs before sleeping. Very much like the chipmunks..

I found the lyric sheet behind my shelves, and for the first time in years, I actually found myself singing --heh-- to songs long, long forgotten. Wistful memories.

Ah, here comes the song that made me love it all the more. And what do you know; it's even more applicable now than then. I can't find the tape's cover, so I don't know who the credit goes to. But just for old time's sake.. I'm including it here.

Lazy's Song

Chorus:
Don't wake me up in the morning
I'll get mad and I'll scream without warning
Let me stay here in bed, nice and warm
Stop that wake-up alarm
Who did invent the alarmclock
He'd better stay out of my way
I like to wake up nice and easy
But that sound of that bell... it spoils my day

It's every morning the same old story
When the alarm rings we start the day
Only the lazy smurf is not responding
And with his eyes still closed he'd say:

Chorus

While we are having our early breakfast
The lazy smurf still sleeps like a log
And as we try to wake him up he mutters
Leave me alone and stop that clock.

Albeit, it sounds better sung rather than read, but ah, what the hey. A good week to you all.
